How to play the tambourine

There are several ways to play the tambourine. You can play on the edge of the tambourine, on the skin or directly on the bells. And you can vary the sound level by playing softly with your fingertips and loudly with your flat hand. Last but not least, you can get sound out of the tambourine by shaking the tambourine with your wrist without striking it. All these combinations can add up to something resembling music. Or musical accompaniment if you will. Although the tambourine can deliver a decent solo, it's most commonly used as a rhythmic accompaniment to a larger event.
