The pedal works both as a single overdrive source or as a boost pedal on an already overdriven sound.
On its own, you go from a marginal crack (almost clean until you cut a little harder) to a moderately overdriven sound with a huge slope without it being very distant or overly compressed.
As a boost pedal, it pushes pretty hard if you want to, and the result is of course dependent on what kind of sound you boost. Many metal records are recorded with a TS pedal in front of the amp. As the only overdrive source, it hasn't gained enough to be a metal monster. Then the TS is for a completely different school.
