The brand new TAD-EL84-STR REDBASE brings together the best of both - the famous EL84-Cz and EL84M.
We chose the thickest possible glass and heaviest construction available, just like the Russian EL84M, and combined these characteristics with the most sonically promising cathode plate options to meet and exceed the tonal quality of the EL84-Cz, especially in terms of its linearity across the frequency range. Finally, we added the gold grid wire to improve the overall reliability. The sound can be described as very harmonious in the mid and treble frequencies, without adding too much power to the bass. The result is the best EL84 in current production.
No compromise!
Note:
Due to its 22.5 mm diameter, the TAD EL84-STR does not fit into older Marshall DSL401 made before week #20 of 2014 and UK made VOX AC15 TBX amplifiers of the same time interval.
The tube that fit these amplifiers is Ei EL84 or certain NOS models. All new production of EL84 uses the 22.5 mm standard.
Later versions of these amplifiers have been updated to accept 22.5 mm diameter tubes without issue.
