The small slider slides across the strings and produces a "crying" sound that is popular in contry music.

The slider is also called a bottleneck because in the old days a bottleneck was used to create the effect. As a retro touch, today you can buy bottle slides that look like old medicine glasses.

Choose the right guitar slide

Fit is pretty crucial when buying guitar slides. Firstly, you need to decide which finger you want to use. If you're a beginner, it might be a good idea to start with the ring finger, as you can then use both the little finger and middle finger to support the ring finger. However, if you can learn to use your little finger for the slider, it's a great advantage to have the rest of your fingers free to play the guitar.

Once you've decided which finger you want to use, make sure you find a slider that fits that finger. This means that your slider should fit over the first two joints of the finger. It also needs to be tight enough so that it doesn't cut off the blood supply, but doesn't fall off either.

It's probably best to try a few different sliders in your local music store before you buy.

If you need other accessories for your stringed instrumentyou can pick them up at the same time. These could be, for example picks, capo or guitar strap.
