AZ - Players Player Project -
AZ is the result of years of testing, with many of the world's best guitarists as test pilots, with the aim of producing the ultimate guitar player. That means an extremely well-sounding, easy-to-play and stable instrument that you should be able to play virtually any style of music with. Roasted/baked maple necks for stability no matter how you travel around the planet and wherever you play. Stainless steel frets to make them virtually indestructible and feel smooth and polished no matter how much you play. A perfectly functioning stable with an arm mount that won't come loose no matter how much you pull and tug. And all this with "TON" written on the forehead, No spec in the world means anything if it doesn't sound amazing, and this one does, it sounds better than amazing.
The AZ neck is a modern neck with what Ibanez calls an oval C profile. A 1-piece Premium neck in roasted/baked maple. The wood is roasted in a vacuum oven that drives all liquid and resin out of the wood, making it extremely stable if almost completely insensitive to weather and moisture.
Sonically, it makes the wood behave like old and dry wood, with more resonance, sustain and tone.
This is the same toasting technology that has been on the market for a few years now (which is different from the S-TECH toasting that the Prestige versions have).
The guitar sings in a completely different way than the corresponding untreated wood and is several times more stable. The neck is finally treated with oil, giving the guitar a well-recorded wood feel, forget about sticky varnish getting stuck.
Neck profile
Ibanez calls the neck AZ oval C, which describes it pretty accurately.
C with slightly more shoulders would also fit well. It's noticeably thicker than how Ibanez usually have their necks, but for that reason not fat or bulky. 20.5 mm at the first band and 22.5 mm at band 12. It feels modern and accessible at the same time as it feels traditional and familiar. The fretboard radius is a perfect compromise to be perfect for both chords and soloing. The transition between fretboard and neck is softly rounded called "rolled fretboard edges", giving a very smooth and busy feel.
The body
The body is designed to be comfortable and without sharp edges, so you can stand or sit and play for hours. The rounding of the edges is softer on the back than on the front. The neck meets the body with Ibanez' new Super All Access Neck Joint, which is a further development of their proven All Access Neck Joint.
SAANJ makes the entire neck extremely accessible without cutting too much wood and starting to have a negative effect on tone.
Seymour Duncan® Hyperion pickups
Hyperion is a microphone developed in collaboration with Marciela "MJ" Juarez at Seymour Duncan, a girl who has been Employee no.2 as Seymour's right hand since 1976. She has made microphones for Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck, David Gimour, Slash, Joe Bonamassa, just to name a few.
A moderate output microphone with Alnico5 magnets. A clear, dynamic mic with good separation and a distinct pick attack. Very good balance between the strings, so low notes are clear and high notes warm and rich. Pickups are connected to a dyna-MIX 10 switch with an additional Walter switch. This gives a lot of usable, believable sounds from everything to humbucker to single coil.
Ibanez T1502 Tremolo
The cab is an evolution of the GOTOH 510, one of the world's most popular non-locking cabs. Ibanez We thought "is this the best out there, or can it be improved?", and it was. The T1502 is based on the 510 and built by GOTOH, meaning modern 2 pivot style with lockable bounces. Updates include a better, and completely game-free, arm mount (snap in with adjustable pressure. The arm can be replaced with a Ibanez Ultra Lite swingarm).
T1502 has the same string spacing as the 510 narrow, 10.5 mm instead of 10.8 mm.
The pickup connection is called Ibanez Dyna-MIX and together with their Alter-switch you can access an extremely large number of usable sounds. A fantastic microphone system and incomparably good microphones.
