Modern acoustic guitar playing encompasses a wide range of musical styles and techniques, placing high demands on an instrument's versatility. The AE Series is the result of extensive collaboration with professional guitarists who contributed their experience and feedback throughout the development process. The knowledge gained has been incorporated into every model in the AE Series.
The body shape has been designed to deliver exceptional playing comfort while producing a balanced, full-bodied tone that performs equally well in the studio and on stage, whether played as a solo instrument or in an ensemble.
The specially designed X-M bracing provides a wide, open sound with excellent projection, along with rich sustain that is equally suited to fingerstyle and flatpicking.
The top, back, and sides are crafted from flamed okoume. In addition to its striking appearance, this tonewood produces a warm, woody voice with a soft, dynamic response for fingerstyle playing, while delivering punchy mids and excellent projection when played with a pick.
Integrating electronics into an acoustic guitar always involves balancing amplified performance with natural acoustic tone. The AE340FMH is equipped with an Ibanez T-bar undersaddle pickup which, together with the active preamp, faithfully reproduces the guitar's natural acoustic sound.
A.I.R. Port
The AE340FMH features Ibanez's innovative A.I.R. Port (Acoustic Information Response).
A.I.R. Port is designed to provide significantly improved on-stage monitoring for the player. A sound port positioned in the guitar's side directs sound toward the guitarist, making it much easier to hear the instrument's natural acoustic voice while playing.
Although sound ports have become increasingly popular on acoustic guitars, few major manufacturers offer this feature at an affordable price point. Many existing designs simply consist of a hole cut into the guitar's side.
Ibanez wanted to create a more effective solution. After extensive testing of different port sizes, shapes, and locations, they developed a design incorporating angled internal wooden deflectors that direct and project the sound efficiently through the port. This technology is now featured on a wide range of AE Series models.
