The guitar is every man's possession
Most people probably think of a guitar when they think of stringed instruments. Maybe it's because the guitar is a bit of an everyman's item. The guitar can be found in many homes, institutions, schools, etc. Many people can play 2-3 chords on a guitar - even if they don't have musical blood in their veins. We call it campfire guitar. It's usually the Spanish guitar that's brought out around the campfire, but it can also be a western. The electric guitar is more for stage use.
One of the main differences between Spanish and Western is the strings. The Western guitar has steel strings and the Spanish guitar has nylon strings. The steel strings can cause calluses on your fingers, but it pays off with the beautiful, crisp sound the strings produce. The nylon strings are good as beginner strings or if the guitar kun is found before St. Hans.
If you have an electric guitarchoosing strings can get pretty nerdy. To keep it simple, you can just consider the thickness of the strings. Thicker strings can produce a better sound, but are also a little harder to play. Heavier strings have a smaller range but are easier to play. So it's all about where you are on your journey with your instrument. Is it playability or sound you want to prioritize right now? You can always switch to other strings later.
There's no getting around the electric bass
Although the history of the electric bass is short (Fender invented the first electric bass in 1951), it's hard to imagine modern music without the deep bottom that the electric bass provides. Together with the drums, the bass provides the sexy basic rhythm.
There are different strings for electric bass and they have different sounds. So it doesn't really matter which one you choose. Ultimately, it's a matter of taste that determines which strings you should have. But the most common choice is round-wound strings, so if in doubt, start there.
The ukulele is trending like crazy
It looks like a child's guitar. Maybe it's hard to take seriously? But the ukulele deserves respect. It's easy to learn to play, but many musicians use it at a professional level and it has won the hearts of the masses.
If you know what type of ukulele you have, all you need to do at first is choose the strings that match the type. Over time, you'll probably find your favorite strings that you keep coming back to every time you need to change strings.
