In the old days, studio recording kun was for professional musicians and people with a lot of money in their pockets. Nowadays, you can create a great studio recording in the comfort of your own home with relatively few resources. You can start with the basics and later expand with more equipment if it turns out to be fun.

What you need in your recording studio

Start with a good studio microphone. It's well worth it. The built-in microphone on your computer or headset isn't good enough.

In addition to the microphone, you'll need sound card, monitor and a set of decent headphones. And you're off and running.

If you dream of pursuing a career as a producer or musician, the home studio is a great place to start. Many professionals have started that way. Home studio equipment is now available in good quality and at affordable prices. So there's no excuse not to go for the dream.

Are you in control of the noise levels in your home studio? This goes both ways - noise in and out of the studio. If you have neighbors who are bothered by the noise from your music studio, you need to deal with it. But there can also be noise from the street that interferes with your recordings. So effective soundproofing can make sense in several ways. You don't have to do a major remodel for it. A couple of sound dampening acoustic panels can suffice. Experiment with different soundproofing measures and go with what works.
