The 6E5P is a Russian-made miniature high-frequency tetrode vacuum tube known for its high transconductance and linearity, making it popular in audiophile applications, particularly as a driver in single-ended amplifiers

    • Original Application: The tube was originally designed for broadband amplification of high-frequency voltage in the output stages of amplifiers, operating up to 200 MHz.
    • Audiophile Use: It is highly regarded by audio enthusiasts when connected in triode mode (triode-strapped) due to its excellent linearity, low plate resistance (around 900Ω - 1kΩ), and high transconductance.
    • Driver Stage: Many use the 6E5P as a driver tube for power tubes like the 300B or 4P1L in single-ended (SE) amplifiers, providing a gain (mu) of about 30-35.
    • Physical: It has a miniature glass envelope with nine rigid leads and an indirectly heated oxide-coated cathode. 


    Equivalents:
    The 6E5P is equivalent to the Japanese 6ME4.
    The impulse version, the 6E5P-I (or 6E5P-E), is designed for pulsed operation and, while electrically measuring similarly, some audiophiles report sonic differences.
