The Hytron VT-232 is a vintage octal-based glass triode vacuum tube developed for the U.S. military in the 1940s, known for its use as a VHF oscillator and in audio amplifiers. It is similar to the commercial 6J5GT tube type.

    The Hytron VT-232 was part of a line of military-issue tubes and has several alternative designations. 

     

     

    • Function: Designed for use as a VHF (Very High Frequency) power amplifier/oscillator and in audio amplifier applications.
    • Structure: It is an octal-based glass triode featuring two top caps for the grid and anode connections, a black carbonized plate, and mica spacers.
    • Military Designations: It is also known as the E1148, CV6, and DET20.
    • Commercial Equivalent: It is essentially a military-grade development of the commercial 6J5GT triode.
    • Interchangeability: The 7193 tube type appears to be quite equivalent, but users should be mindful of the top cap placement for the grid and plate when using adapters. Adapters are available to use these in place of 6SN7 tubes in some preamplifier designs, with some users reporting excellent sound quality.
