The 1964 Höfner 500/1 Violin Bass (popularly known as "The Beatles Bass") is one of the most iconic electric bass guitars ever made, famous for its lightweight, fully hollow design and its direct connection to Paul McCartney.

In original condition with original case. Even the original strings from 1964 are included!

It is an instrument with over 60 years behind it, so of course there are signs of use.

  • Description
    • Body & Construction: It features a fully hollow, violin-shaped body with an arched German spruce top and flamed maple/sycamore back and sides.
    • Scale & Neck: Built as a short-scale instrument (30 inches) with a slim '64 neck profile, 22 frets, and a rosewood fretboard. Unlike earlier models like the '62, the 1964 model features white celluloid neck binding.
    • Electronics: Equipped with two Hofner "Staple" nickel pickups mounted in small, adjustable surrounds. The control layout features a small pearloid panel with two volume knobs, two on/off pickup switches, and a Rhythm/Solo switch for a volume boost.
    • Hardware: Outfitted with a floating adjustable ebony bridge, a nickel trapeze tailpiece and classic "tea cup" control knobs.
    • Tone: Strung with flatwound strings, it is famous for its warm, thumpy, "woody" acoustic-like vintage tone.
