The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special is a distinctive offering in the expanding PRS SE series. Featuring a swamp ash body and a 22-fret maple neck with a maple fingerboard, the SE Swamp Ash Special boasts a fresh look and a versatile tonal palette.
The 85/15 "S" pickups flank a PRS-designed AS-01 Single Coil "S" pickup in the middle position. The AS-01 combines alnico and steel (hence the name), adding mass and contributing to a powerful sound. Paired with a push-pull tone control and a 5-way pickup selector, this pickup/electronics configuration provides the guitarist with a wide range of tones. The addition of PRS’s patented tremolo system adds further versatility.
Overall, the tone can be described as tight low-end, bright yet smooth high-end, and a welcoming midrange that fits perfectly in hot country, blues, and even jazz contexts.
