The Yamaha YFL-282 is a silver-plated, student-level transverse flute from Yamaha’s 200 Series. It is designed for beginners and advancing students, with a traditional in-line key layout and open-hole (ring-key) construction.

  • Open-hole keys: The holes in the keys allow greater finger control. Removable plugs can be used while learning, if supplied or fitted.
  • In-line G: The G key is aligned with the other main keys. Some players prefer this traditional layout, although it can feel less comfortable for certain hands.
  • Silver-plated nickel silver: The instrument has a silver-coloured finish, but it is not made from solid sterling silver.
  • C footjoint: The flute's lowest standard note is C, one semitone higher than the B available on a B-foot model.
  • No split E mechanism: The high E may require more careful technique to produce a stable, centred note.

The YFL-282 is a good option for a student who wants a traditional open-hole flute and is developing beyond the very basics. Its in-line G and ring keys make it somewhat different from beginner models such as the YFL-222, which has covered keys and an offset G.
