The Gibson J-45™ was first introduced in 1942 and has since remained a staple in Gibson’s acoustic lineup. It has earned the nickname “The Workhorse” due to its wide versatility, no-nonsense simplicity, and understated elegance. It is one of the most recorded acoustic guitars in history and Gibson’s best-selling acoustic model of all time.
The new Gibson J-45 Special is handcrafted with great care in Bozeman, Montana, by Gibson’s experienced acoustic luthiers, giving players the opportunity to own a USA-made Gibson acoustic guitar at a very attractive price.
The J-45 Special features a round-shoulder body constructed with solid mahogany back and sides and a solid Sitka spruce top. The top is reinforced with traditional scalloped X-bracing. This combination of tonewoods delivers a warm, balanced tone with excellent dynamic range, suitable for all musical genres.
The body’s “concert depth” is slightly shallower than that of a J-45 Standard, giving the J-45 Special a tighter and more focused bass response that sits well in a mix, while also making the guitar more comfortable to hold.
The utile neck is attached to the body with a compound dovetail joint and, like all Gibson acoustic guitars, is glued using hot hide glue. The neck features a comfortable and fast-playing Slim Taper™ profile, and the rosewood fingerboard has a 12" radius and is adorned with simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays, along with 20 standard frets.
The traditional belly-up rosewood bridge is fitted with a TUSQ® saddle, and both the nut and bridge pins are also made of TUSQ. High-quality Grover® Rotomatic® tuning machines ensure stable and precise tuning.
The J-45 Special is finished in satin nitrocellulose lacquer and is available in either Satin Vintage Sunburst or Satin Wine Red. It is equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze under-saddle piezo pickup with active electronics, along with an easily accessible soundhole-mounted volume control, making it ready for studio-quality plug-and-play use.
The J-45 Special also comes with a premium soft shell case.
