All solid wood. Grand deck, rosewood back/sides, mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard and chair.
The back or back of the guitar is made of three pieces of rosewood. Originally, C.F. Martin & Co introduced this method to save wood, but it turned out to give the guitar unparalleled bass, bottom and rumble in the sound. Johnny Cash, among others, took a liking to this characteristic and ended up building this signature D-35 with a black finish - the first C.F. Martin & Co. guitar in black to leave the factory. In addition to the black finish, the guitar is adorned with several beautiful mother-of-pearl inlays around the soundhole and on the fingerboard, including Johnny Cash's signature 21st fret.
Beautifully edge bound with grained ivoroid (plastic) on the body and neck.
